Welcome to 9to5!

Hi and welcome to 9to5fashion, a blog for young career women transitioning their wardrobe from college to corporate.

I'm starting this blog because I'm frustrated. The advice "dress for the job you want" is a little bit impossible for women because age is such a determining factor in what we wear. Sure, one day my closet will be full of Dress Barn staples, but for now, I think there is a way to look both my age and professional.

I'm also writing because I'm living on an intern salary. While I wish I could fill my closet with a variety of skirt suits, pant suits, and sheaths of all colors, cuts, and patterns, it isn't practical or feasible. I'm all about versatility - not just mixing & matching suit pieces, but also finding the any-occasion pieces that can be worn outside the office.

And I'm also writing because I like fashion. Most people in my situation settle with having a plain black skirt suit and a rotation of basic blouses worn underneath. I can't let myself be that bland. I [hopefully] have a good balance between style and professionalism, but if not, I'll certainly be learning. I've been working with my university's career center, and I'm pigeon holing myself as the go to gal for entry level fashion. I'm also a volunteer for Dress for Success, an [amazingly wonderful!] organization that provides career development and employment/interview attire for underprivileged women. I'll be a personal shopper, and will likely find great inspiration around our local boutique!
